The plan was to retire at 50, but then half the world got doped on furlough and everything doubled in price so that's been put back to 55.

I've spent years topping up the pension to give me the financial edge in retirement, but I'm not sure that will ever come to pass. I've seen how utterly batshit UK plc has become since I started work in the 90s. Personal responsibility has been ceded to the state so I wouldn't be at all surprised the government just gives those who've not paid in a penny the same big fat pension anyway.

And I'll wake up on my first day of retirement and realise that the previous 35 years were a complete waste of time.

Retirements are cancelled. We need to keep working to help pay for those public sector pensions.

Let face it, everything is utterly shit and we should all.just give up and enjoy ourselves whilst destroying everything in sight.

I am wondering if private sector workers face lower pay, mind.

The only thing I would ask is that if they were to cane public sector pensions then who would do all the shit jobs? I don't think people have shit public sector jobs for the pay, so it's possibly understandable why they would want to prevent an exodus.

Let them walk and have the whole of the public sector run by apprentices with no pension, I say!

Not far off. Preparing myself for a life of telling people I live on the outskirts of somewhere they’ve almost definitely never heard of and eventually having to accept people thinking I live in Wigan.

Nah just bin the entire private sector and put everything out to tender.

"But who would do all the shit jobs?" is, of course, also the justification for record numbers of legal migrants from Abuja, Kanpur, etc.

Yes, it appears so.

I don't think any of these approaches are particularly good. But I think the whole set up of life is a fundamentally flawed system so we might as well just give up.
