But you do support what Israel, under his leadership, are doing in respect of Gaza and Lebanon so you are, by implication, supporting Netanyahu's 'strategy'. And I, and a significant and important part of the rest of the world, are saying that needs to stop. See also what I've said in response to Baldman about how Netanyahu have helped Hamas' cause Meerkat Wrote: The opinion poll just shows how many would end the war if they got the hostages back, not the same question. The 'weak west'. Jeez. Are you that obsessed with the need for war that you implacably opposed to their efforts to try to broker a ceasefire? Meerkat Wrote: It will be a shorter pause if the west yet again show that they will ride to Hezbollah/Hamas rescue before they face the consequences of their attacks on Israel. Is that what the 'weak west' is doing? I think not. Meerkat Wrote: Gaza was not an open prison, that is just propaganda - take a look at photos of the place before the latest conflict. The Israelis were opening up, more work permits etc - turns out this was just Hamas lulling them into dropping their defences. It was, in effect, an open prison for the reasons I provided. Even a United Nations expert has described it as such, though, I guess, the UN is 'weak' in Meerkat's fantasy world. Meerkat Wrote: The West Bank is very different. We should leverage continued non-interference on the war in return for at bare minimum an enforcement of Israeli law on the settlers. The bare minimum should be the settlers moving out. Their occupation is rightly viewed as illegal by the international community. It won't happen while Netanyahu is still in power. Meerkat Wrote: What is so special about the Palestinians that the 67 border is sacrosanct, when it was just the ceasefire line when Israel managed to stop the Arabs attempts to exterminate them?'A popular enemy'? Israel has alienated itself from most of the rest of the world. Right now, I'm listening to Frank Gardner on the BBC saying how Netanyahu is an obstacle to peace. 'He's a very good talker but most people in the region, including many in Israel, think that he's an absolute disaster for the Middle East. The actions he has taken and the actions he has refused to take are helping to contribute to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East'. A good opinion article here by Jonathan Freedland (a Jewish journalist). He asks what Netanyahu's plan is for 'the day after'. What is the strategy behind all this? '...that doctrine has taken a toll on Israel’s ability to see clearly. To a man with a hammer, every problem looks like a nail – and Israel has become that man. It cannot see there might be another way.' I have far more confidence in the ability of these commentators to assess what's going on than in yours - if I have any in the latter... 26-09-2024, 10:42 AM in response to #74255 26-09-2024, 10:52 AM in response to #74264 26-09-2024, 10:53 AM in response to #74244 Meerkat Wrote: Doesn’t bother people when the Turks do it, and that doesn’t explain decades of picking on Israel as the big baddy. Just to point out that myself and Ben spoke about the Uyghurs in China. You ignored us. So your latest wheeze of shouting about the Turks is a demonstrable 'look there is a squirrel' moment. 26-09-2024, 11:00 AM in response to #74264 Baldman Wrote: Ha It's probably about time that we all filled in a questionnaire and fed the answers into an AI which could then give us each a designated area in which to live. Oh...I apologise for the error but they are going to be living in Tong, Bradford (the old eyes ain't what they used to be) and can still visit quite easily. I hope this does not detract from the enjoyment of your new home. Good luck and please remember not to humuor your neighbour too much or you will find yourself engaged in endless nights drinking dessert flavoured ale and scouring the football results to check if one of approximately 23 (we cannot be sure of the exact amount as he does shapeshift often) wins. |
