I'm not convinced it really exists.

It's not part of Kent anymore. Regularly hear 'Kent & Medway' in the news

I had to rescue Barda years back late at night from deepest darkest Gillingham . I don’t know why but he was crouched in a phone box by the station.
It’s a proper mess that town 31-05-2024, 09:05 PM (This post was last modified: 31-05-2024, 09:06 PM by Gary Bauress.) in response to #50134
I once visited Rochester for the day with my wife. It happened to be on the day of something called the Sweeps festival and this seemed to mean it was ok to have blacked up Morris dancing and people utterly pissed in the gutters by two o'clock in the afternoon. In what seemed ok Peter too be quite a nice place, the main explanation for the general behaviour was 'people from Gillingham and Chatham'.

Sweeps festival is ok except my Missis is into all that blacking up pagan shite. She one introduced me to a friend called John Crow. He had great pride in telling me that he blacked up because he is a crow . He is convinced that following a breakdown in Dartford he morphed into a crow and flew to Lincolnshire where ever since he has lived as John Crow on a commune of some kind. He was sane compared to his nutty mates. Rochester is much better then Gillingham. 31-05-2024, 11:28 PM in response to #50134 01-06-2024, 10:53 AM in response to #50125
I went ina dodgy looking pub there on a Saturday lunchtime. Before I was served I was offered a variety of drugs (“it’s all good stuff”). I was wearing jeans, a hoodie and trainers and was unshaven. Which is exactly was an undercover 👮♀️ would wear, yet the bloke was openly dealing to someone he’d never met.

Gillingham were non league 1893 to 1920 and 1938 to 1950. My son sang at the Sweeps Festival this year. The blacking up represents the soot from the chimneys rather than a wish to do a reverse Michael Jackson.
