The thought goes through my mind that 98% of Confforumers don't give a flying fuck about Woking council's finances.
For the handful that do, it is probably important to understand the facts.
All that was agreed cross-party was the principle of regenerating the town centre. But because no actual details were shared on the finances due to lack of any transparency or governance, the former Tory administration got away with bankrupting Woking.
The Tory MP, Jonathan Lord, met with them regularly but not once did he challenge them.
As soon as the Lib Dem administration got into power, they set up a proper transparent governance system. Realising the seriousness of the financial situation, they informed the public.
So they voted for it, and despite being elected representatives they didn’t keep an eye on what was going on? Hardly a glowing reference for a wannabe MP. They also refused to take over as early as they could have, out of political self interest.
Forster and Barker are part of the mess, and now taking advantage of it.
