Eel. Apart from Cockernees, who eats eel THESE DAYS?
[/quote]
Not a cockney but a sarf londiner. Never had and never fancied jellied eels. However as a kid if mum or nan took me shopping in Woolwich is was finished off with stewed eels, mash and liquor in Manzes pie and eel house. Sometimes if they wanted to get home it was a takeaway with the cooked items put in jam jars. Otherwise you could buy fresh eels that they killed and cut up on the spot. Wrapped up in newsapaper they often still wriggled on the bus home. The PC brigade woud have a heart attack these days.
I presume the pie and eel shop is still there as I avoid Woolwich as much as possible.
