If you're already one of the most densely populated countries in Europe, and your population is projected to increase by nearly 10% over 15 years, with almost all of the increase coming from migration, then you'd be bonkers not to take steps to turn that around. Particularly as the electorate thinks immigration is too high and didn't want the increase in the first place.

The fact net migration has gone up to record levels since we left the EU is more of an indictment of this Conservative government than of Brexit. But I wouldn't expect a proponent of open borders - i.e. a crank - to recognise or acknowledge that.
