Leeds Sandgrounder Wrote: I would agree that immigration has to be controlled sensibly - this government hasn't done that, and I suspect a lot of it is deliberate. It's pointless pretending that it doesn't put pressure on housing/infrastructure/unskilled jobs etc, because it does, but I'm not sure that a lot of said infrastructure would not collapse without it. I don't think 700k people per year is typical, but it certainly wouldn't be sustainable.
That first line could be straight from Farage, as could the 'pressure on housing/infrastructure/unskilled jobs.
At present we have labour shortages. In the care industry (as a micro shot of what is happening) you just walk through the door without being dodgy and you're in. There are constant problems with places not being properly staffed.
Housing is a mess because the banks have/are being allowed to run riot for their own benefit and Thatcher's Council House sell off. Blair and Brown had 13 years to regulate banks and do something about social housing. They did neither. Major, Cameron, May, Johnson, Truss, Sunak all did nothing as well.
Infrastructure is in a mess because of refusals to invest in it. I've seen two large (for the town) housing estates go up here. No accompanying doctor's surgery or enlargement of local schools. You used to say this regularly. Yet, one day after accepting a very right wing politician with open arms you are chatting about immigrants putting pressure on things. This ain't 'fringe party fanny' speak. Its just continually saying what I have consistently said and what you once said.
God, when he gets in I hope Starmer is better than the shambolic stuff going on here.
