If this is telling me anything it is that the Government - and I guess we are talking about a Labour one - should focus, first and foremost, on finding ways to get the large number of UK citizens of working age who are now economically inactive back into gainful and productive employment.
If that means, for example, providing more support to those experiencing mental health issues then so be it.
This would reduce the need for legal migration. There are other issues to be addressed, such as the arrival of dependants of students.
I don't like the analysis by country or geographical region. I don't know the purpose of this is other than to support right-wing arguments to discriminate on immigration on the basis of where someone comes from (and, maybe, what they look like)
