I think Southgate is correct when he points out that we're missing Kalvin Phillips. However, it's his job to find and bed-in a replacement. Instead, he's experimented with TAA in midfield during a major international tournament. *rolls eyes* (Don't get me started on playing Trippier at left-back.)
Rice played as the only defensive midfielder at West Ham for years and he was very good at it. He'd be fine on his own.
It would be a nice change to just have a little attack.
