I just thought it was funny how quickly you proved my point from the other thread. No. But the choice you are presenting is handyman/sex offender is a bit silly and irrelevant. You had previously said that a man can become a woman by asserting that he is a woman⌠and therefore someone asserting that they are a woman should be admitted to (for instance) a female prison. Now you are saying that a man can become a woman by asserting it is so ONLY IF he is not lying. This opens the possibility that there are certain men out there lying about being a woman. But you have also said that this can only be determined in a court of law (by a jury if necessary). So to ensure that gender segregated spaces are properly segregated, each trans person will need to apply for a court ruling before taking a piss. Have you thought this through? 17-04-2024, 05:09 PM (This post was last modified: 17-04-2024, 05:09 PM by Barnet Ben.) in response to #41806 Baldman Wrote: Well I can, yes. How do we test a new decorator doing their first job is genuine? Now apply that scenario your following paragraphs and things might start to make sense. 17-04-2024, 05:14 PM (This post was last modified: 17-04-2024, 05:19 PM by Meerkat.) in response to #41809 Barnet Ben Wrote: Nothing silly or irrelevant about it. Even by your standards that really doesnât âstart to make senseâ Do Checkatrade do trannies now? A tradesman either has qualifications or they prove it by doing it? How does that work for transsexuals, coz I think we are back in sexist Ben territory âDo you like buying clothes?â âDid you play with dolls?â âAre you crap at parking?â 17-04-2024, 05:21 PM in response to #41809 Barnet Ben Wrote: Nothing silly or irrelevant about it. Well, you could ask 'him' to actually decorate something and see if 'he' is any good. It is, you see, actually possible for non painters and decorators to become painters and decorators 17-04-2024, 05:38 PM in response to #41812 Greek Card Wrote: Well, you could ask 'him' to actually decorate something and see if 'he' is any good. I wasn't a window cleaner until I became a window cleaner. It can happen to anyone. Unfortunately that's how a lot of con artists work, if you want a handyman, try one you see working, or ask for recommendations, nobody busy will flyer your door after all. 17-04-2024, 05:46 PM in response to #41811 Meerkat Wrote: A tradesman either has qualifications or they prove it by doing it? Same problem though. How do you prove something you have never done? How do you prove they are there to do a job and not rob their customer? A lot of the world works on trust and reputation. And assuming the worst in people doesn't get you very far. 17-04-2024, 05:47 PM in response to #41809 Barnet Ben Wrote: Nothing silly or irrelevant about it. As others have pointed out, you have checkatrade, word of mouth, council schemes etc etc. Would you be supportive of some kind of independent verification of trans people? A council run âtrusted transâ scheme? But the obvious reason itâs a silly analogy (which I think you know) is that if you are in prison you donât choose your cell mates. You canât vet someone who follows you into a toilet. You canât get a recommendation for people flashing their bollocks in your changing room. 17-04-2024, 05:48 PM in response to #41812 17-04-2024, 05:53 PM in response to #41816 Baldman Wrote: As others have pointed out, you have checkatrade, word of mouth, council schemes etc etc. Would you be supportive of some kind of independent verification of trans people? Identify yourself as a painter, look for work and you are painter. And people will assume you are a painter until you do something to prove you aren't. That's the society we live in and it seems silly to want to change that. |
