"The hapless Leon Brittan, who proved to be the weakest link in presenting the government's position, was forced to resign after pressure from Conservative MPs, some of it in appallingly bad taste. A leading Tory called for a red-necked Englishman to take over the Department of Trade and Industry, an obvious reference to the fact that Mr Brittan is Jewish." Nothing really changes. 12-05-2024, 04:45 PM in response to #46305 12-05-2024, 06:02 PM in response to #46271
Today I started to assemble two ceiling fans
went off for breakfast with a friend cut the grass went down to the beach it’s all about balance. Of course a long list of chores can be depressing, but balance them with wins and as Mary Poppins says ‘just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down’. 12-05-2024, 08:52 PM in response to #46286 Meerkat Wrote: Sun is out so the knob over the road is indulging his jetwasher addiction - spending hours ruining his drive by blasting all the sand out from under the paving, and coating his neighbours cars in a mist of muddy water. I'll have to jet wash the drive soon albeit it hasn't been done in years. And it is getting a tad overgrown so need to replace what remains of the sand anyway. 13-05-2024, 07:45 AM in response to #46276 Leeds Sandgrounder Wrote: My house is falling to bits and I will never have the money to do anything about it. Someone torch it for us or drive a lorry through it, cheers. Yes, home ownership is a right pain isn't it? I have new respect for my parents. They both worked full time shift work (some nights), brought up 4 kids and ran a house. Life must have just been constant work for them one way or another. I'm at the stage where i'm actually enjoying doing a bit of maintenance. I'm learning a few new skills, am enjoying playing with some of the new toys i've bought and there's a feeling of self satisfaction when its done. But, I give it a few more months before that feeling is gone. Especially as some jobs i'll have to pay to get skilled people in to sort out (as I already have done). It just feels like wasted money as i've already paid for my house right? It should always be fine. As I live on my own the temptation to ditch the house and move back into an easy to maintain apartment is nagging in the back of my mind. 13-05-2024, 08:24 AM in response to #46356 Auntie Merge Wrote: Today I started to assemble two ceiling fans Not if you have diabetes it doesn’t. 13-05-2024, 08:29 AM in response to #46397 13-05-2024, 09:34 AM in response to #46395 Mr Nice 2.0 Wrote: Yes, home ownership is a right pain isn't it? I just marvel at how naive I was about how much money would actually be required. Making the biggest financial commitment you'll ever make based on about 20 minutes' nosing about a house and the say-so of a complete stranger you'll never meet is a strange thing to do. 13-05-2024, 09:50 AM in response to #46407 Leeds Sandgrounder Wrote: I just marvel at how naive I was about how much money would actually be required. The bit that got me was the making an offer. When else would you fairly flippantly just throw in extra tens of thousands of pounds to a guess of what the real price is?! I hate having tradies round. Ridiculous sums of money and I don't know enough about what they are doing to know if they are doing it right and/or at a fair price, and almost without fail I have ended up being a bit annoyed about something they did, even when using recommended people. |
