The problem in SE London is that they have 20 mph limits on wide roads where 30 mph is perfectly safe. You then get half the drivers obeying them and half the drivers pulling stupid overtaking moves because they don’t want to drive at 20. 20-04-2024, 07:58 AM in response to #42240
20mph roads aren't as clever as some would think, and for a cyclist they're a nuisance and a common cause for footpath riding.

The Welsh cycling groups don't agree. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c060gpx8nnko TBH I see the point though. On smaller roads it becomes stop start, there are no gaps to get through and you end up bunking up on the path. 20-04-2024, 09:00 AM in response to #42240 Greenwich Shot Wrote: 20 mph makes sense on narrow urban roads. You drive up a wide road with good vision and think, "why is this 20mph or 30mph," as you crawl painfully along. Eastern Way in Carlisle is a good example (let's see if CUFC Infinity agrees) 20-04-2024, 09:23 AM in response to #42262
The real campaigners are zealots who just want rid of cars, but I don't reckon a lot of the casual supporters really realise how slow 20mph is.
Its ok if the road is narrow and complicated, or you are stuck behind someone anyway, but if its wide and usually clear its torturous and pointless. 20-04-2024, 09:35 AM in response to #42267 Meerkat Wrote: The real campaigners are zealots who just want rid of cars, but I don't reckon a lot of the casual supporters really realise how slow 20mph is. I would like rid of cars with alternatives found. However, I complained about the 20mph in The Bay. |
