I'll be up for the FA abolishing replays in the FA Cup on one condition - every single penalty taken by Premier League clubs against a lower league side will be taken by Diana Ross.

I feel a bit funny about the argument that replays should be allowed because if a small team gets one against a big team then it’s like a winning lottery ticket.
Is that a sensible way to organise things? Is it fair or desirable that one club wins the lottery and can survive/thrive? And when one does, doesn’t it just cause a ripple effect of overspending in the club’s division? 19-04-2024, 04:33 PM in response to #42155 Baldman Wrote: I feel a bit funny about the argument that replays should be allowed because if a small team gets one against a big team then it’s like a winning lottery ticket. I'd suggest there are far greater reasons (such as owners) for overspending than the odd club getting a FA Cup windfall, and at least it is actual earned income. Just following that train of thought is it unfair that clubs get big transfer fees as that would do the same as earned income from a FA Cup game away at a PL Club? 19-04-2024, 04:37 PM in response to #42158 Marked Ox Wrote: I'd suggest there are far greater reasons (such as owners) for overspending than the odd club getting a FA Cup windfall, and at least it is actual earned income. Hmmm yes that’s a good riposte. But in theory doesn’t have the randomness of Bert Millichip’s velvety ball bag If this is about the number of games the big clubs have to play, maybe a compromise would be that all FA Cup earnings are split between the two teams regardless of venue (after expenses obvs). 19-04-2024, 04:40 PM in response to #42127
Fa cup gate receipts are split.
Did you not know that?! |
