Two more horses die at Aintree. According to Animal Aid that's 65 of those beautiful animals that have died this century.
Time to make it significantly safer or, if that can't be achieved, ban steeplechasing completely. 13-04-2024, 07:35 AM in response to #41035 Quote:1 Mr Incredible 2 Galia des Liteaux 3 Mahler Mission 4 Vanillier A fiver e/w on one of those and another fiver e/w on a donkey I think, my yearly bookmakers visit, though both my nags placed last year. The National when growing up was one of my favourite sporting events of the year - this couple of weeks with the World Snooker, the Masters and the business end of the football season made it easily my favourite part of the year. I still watch the National and make one of the very few bets I put down for it, but probably more through nostalgia than anything else. I wouldn't argue if they shut the whole thing down tomorrow. 13-04-2024, 08:58 AM (This post was last modified: 13-04-2024, 09:00 AM by Marked Ox.) in response to #41035 Greek Card Wrote: Two more horses die at Aintree. They have to finish, completing all jumps to qualify for the main race. 13-04-2024, 09:02 AM in response to #41044
With the National being a British institution they'd do better leaving the racing alone as the majority would prefer them to.

Aren’t you of a utilitarian bent? What do you make of the argument that without steeplechases there would be many fewer of those beautiful creatures around? 13-04-2024, 09:42 AM in response to #41048 Baldman Wrote: Aren’t you of a utilitarian bent? Having a surplus that are disposable so we can enjoy all the others probably isn't the winning argument. I know, I used to use it myself. |
