I think the yoof of today still drink at parties, but the crackdown on underage drinking in pubs has had a real impact. Even when they reach 18 around half of their mates will still be too young to get served. I was drinking at BSFC when I was 13/14, and going into pubs by the age of 16, they can't do that any more and it's stopped being the thing to do. The price is also a factor £20 is unlikely to get you drunk in a pub. You can 70cl of Sainsbury vodka and half a dozen cans for that.
The only 16/17-year-old mates of laddergirl's who drink "properly" are those of Eastern European descent, so we can blame Brexit for this, as well. 30-03-2024, 04:06 PM in response to #39275
It's having a massive knock on effect on the rest of their lives though
Gen Z think they're getting bullied at work by people asking them to do their jobs properly, whereas we had someone trying to kick our heads in outside a takeaway as a comparison point 30-03-2024, 04:33 PM in response to #39275
Not sure if I count as YOOOOF any more, but speaking from experience the cost has become prohibitive. A good session, few shots, taxi and a kebab is £100 and you just can't do it regularly.
I remember when a hundred quid was the sign of a proper fuck up, you'd check your bank in the morning and despair. Now that is par for a night out. This is why in student towns, the busiest nights are often midweek because venues put on super cheap deals and everyone flocks to it. I have an older sibling seven years my senior, she'd be going out in mid 00s on £20 but those days are gone. 30-03-2024, 04:46 PM in response to #39289 Fola Onibuje Wrote: Not sure if I count as YOOOOF any more, but speaking from experience the cost has become prohibitive. The draconian ID'ing is probably the single worst thing about drinking in the UK. Every other country in Europe turns a blind eye if you're not being a dick. I turned 18 in 2014, I was still getting ID'd in pubs the December just been. That and the whole 5+ pound a pint thing. |
