He was her husband at the time so I assume she believed him to be innocent, twatty as the comments are. She is obviously a bit of an arsehole and I can understand why it gets people's backs up, but I still think it's probably better to do it than not do it.

Not sure it is. What happens if they say no? Surely the politically expedient thing would be for them to say no, so she stays as a Tory and then the story to leak out that she tried to defect to labour.
